  • Appointed by Commissioner’s Court as Judge of Harris County Criminal Court-at-Law No. 16 in 2015
  • Appointed to Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles by Governor George W. Bush and Governor Rick Perry

Judge, Harris County Criminal Court at Law No. 16

Linda Garcia served as the first ever judge of this court.  She quickly gained a reputation as a knowledgeable, hard-working, and fair jurist who treated all court participants with respect.  She presided over numerous court proceedings, including 30 jury trials. 

Harris County District Attorney’s Office

As a former prosecutor in the Harris County District Attorney’s Office, Linda Garcia has prosecuted over 70 felony and misdemeanor jury trials. She is the former Chief Prosecutor in both the Misdemeanor and Justice Court divisions, and her experience also includes work in the Child Abuse Division and Trial Bureau, where she handled felony child victim cases and felony criminal cases from intake through trial.

Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles

During her service on the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles, Linda Garcia was responsible for release decisions, determination of conditions of parole, and revocation decisions for offenders incarcerated in TDCJ-CID or on supervised release. Additionally, she made recommendations to the Governor on executive clemency matters, which included the review and investigation of procedural and factual circumstances of death penalty cases; and represented the Board at public speaking engagements, criminal justice conferences, and interagency working groups.

Community Involvement

Linda is a charter member of the Downtown Houston Rotary Club.  She is also a member of the Houston Bar Association, where she serves on the Teach Texas Committee, the Mexican-American Bar Association, the Association of Women Attorney’s, and the National Hispanic Professional Organization.  Linda volunteers at the Guadalupe Center Food Pantry.

Linda and her husband, Tom, have been married for 20 years and have one son, Trent. They are active members of Annunciation Catholic Church.
